Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD wraps production on series finale brings word that Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has officially wrapped production on its series finale. It was announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con that the ABC series would come to an end after Season 7. Rust: Jeff Daniels to star in Showtime drama series adaptation Golden Globe nominee and Emmy winner Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom, The Squid and the Whale, Godless) will be starring in and executive producing Rust, the straight-to-series adaptation for Showtime. The series is based on the novel American Rust by Philipp Meyer. Rust is a compelling family drama that will explore the tattered American dream through the eyes of the complicated and compromised chief of police Del Harris (Daniels) in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania. When the woman he truly loves sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him. “Jeff Daniels is a bona fide giant on stage and screen, and Dan Futterman is a special writer and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have them together at Showtime,” said Gary Levine, co-president of entertainment at Showtime. “With vibrant characters caught in an unpredictable murder mystery, Rust will tell the relevant and touching human story of the corrosion of the American dream.” A series adaptation of the book was scrapped by USA Network after the channel had picked it up for a straight-to-series order in 2017. Stranger Things Season 3 Episode 8 Recap In the of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Dustin, Erica, Steve, and Robin joined the rest of the gang, but the Mind Flayer monster was hurting Eleven. In the Stranger Things Season 3 finale, it took a coordinated effort to infiltrate the Russian underground fortress on a mission to close the gate. Griswold Family A piece of the Mind Flayer’s creation was embedded inside El’s leg. After Jonathan tried to get it out with a knife, Eleven used her powers to extract it. Right then, the adults finally arrived. After everyone explained what had been going on, the adults formulated a plan using Alexei’s instructions. They would go down into the elevator to shut down the Key. Dustin and Erica rightfully pointed out they needed them to show the way. Code name Griswold Family included Nancy, Jonathan, Will, Eleven, Mike, Lucas, and Max. They were supposed to wait in safety at Bauman’s. Unfortunately, Billy was waiting outside in his car after he had sabotaged the station wagon. They ran back inside the mall, but the monster came in through the glass ceiling. Will, Lucas, Jonathan and Nancy tried to leave, and Billy almost rammed into them, if it wasn’t for Steve. They escaped, but Billy got a hold of Eleven. Lucas led the firework assault against the monster. However, it was Eleven, who reminded Billy of the memory of his mother, that finally broke through. Billy sacrificed himself to save them. Scoop Troop and Bald Eagle Scoop Troop, a.k.a. Dustin, Erica, Robin, and Steve, headed for Weathtertop, the hill where Dustin kept Cerebro. After directing the Bald Eagle, Bauman, through the vents, the adults were at a dead end with the passcode. It was supposed to be Planck’s constant, but the number was wrong. Dustin finally got Susie, who was real, on Cerebro. At Susie’s request, they sang “A Neverending Story” together, and she gave the right number. Unfortunately, Grigori attacked as the gate was closing. Hopper defeated him but didn’t make it out when Joyce closed the gate. The Mind Flayer’s body was dead. Because of Hopper and Joyce’s message, Dr. Owens and government agents swarmed the mall and the facility. Three Months Later The Meyers family was moving, and with Hopper gone, that included Eleven. Eleven told Mike that she had heard him say he loved her. She loved him too. Will donated his Dungeons & Dragons books; he could use Mike’s when he was in town and would never join another party. Joyce showed Eleven the heartfelt speech that Hopper was supposed to give her. During the end credits, we saw a prison in Kamchatka, Russia. Designated Survivor Season 3 Recap Season 3 brought a new national security threat, this time amidst President Kirkman’s reelection campaign. After the show’s , we’re recapping the season’s main storylines to close out and say goodbye (again) to the political drama. Reelection at All Costs President Kirkman ran for reelection as an independent, against the odds. He hired the savvy Lorraine Zimmer to be his campaign manager and named Aaron Shore as his running mate. Lorraine used illegal surveillance technology to spy on conservative opponent Cornelius Moss. When Emily discovered it and went to Kirkman right before the election, he uncharacteristically sat on the information to win. The FBI arrested Lorraine shortly after. As a handsome Latino VP candidate, Aaron helped Kirkman take Texas, Moss’ home state. His relationship with Isabel Pardo was popular, but after he cheated on her with Emily, they still needed to play their parts. Isabel’s promotion to Deputy Chief of Staff helped her realize she deserved better. RIP Hannah Wells Season 3 saw the death of FBI-agent-turned-CIA-analyst Hannah Wells. Uncomfortable with a desk job, Hannah stumbled onto a plan to engineer a virus that would leave people of color sterile, effectively changing voting demographics in the long term. The virus engineer, Wouter Momberg, murdered Hannah, but authorities thwarted the plan. Moss’ biggest donor, Detwiler, financed the plan and his operative hired Momberg. Emily’s Mother Emily had stepped away from the White House to help her mother, Carrie, who was sick with cancer. At Carrie’s insistence, Emily went back to work and chose to join the campaign to keep an eye on Lorraine. However, Carrie visited Emily because assisted suicide was legal. Eventually, Emily mercifully helped Carrie end her life. Prescription Addiction Mars Harper, Kirkman’s Chief of Staff, was living with a wife, Lynn, addicted to painkillers. After a scare that sent her to the hospital and then to rehab, Mars focused on FlagKind, Detwiler’s pharmaceutical company that made the drug she was addicted to. After Detwiler went down, Mars convinced Lynn that she should run for her father’s congressional seat. The Man Who Fell to Earth reboot gets series order at CBS All Access has officially given a series order for creator Alex Kurtzman’s upcoming reboot series adaptation of The Man Who Fell to Earth, which will be based on legendary music icon David Bowie’s 1976 cult classic film of the same name. Kurtzman will also serve a the series’ showrunner and executive producer along with Jenny Lumet and John Hlavin. “We are thrilled to add another iconic genre favorite to our lineup as we expand original programming on CBS All Access,” CBS All Access’ Executive Vice President of Original Content Julie McNamara said. “We know this series will capture the soul and spirit of the source material and further push narrative boundaries in the capable hands of Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet and the entire producing team.” CBS Television Studious president David Stapf added, “I’ve been a fan of this extraordinary film starring David Bowie for years. Swamp Thing Episode 10 Recap Things come to a head in the Series Finale. Abby and Swamp Thing are still holding Alec’s body in the swamp when the Swamp Thing tells her that men are approaching again, but this time it’s different. This time they’re angry and want revenge. Abby tells him she’s so sorry about what happened to Alec, but the Swamp Thing counters that he never was Alec. Abby says he’s wrong; the best part of Alec — his mind and his memories — live in the Swamp Thing. Abby says she doesn’t want to see these men hurt him again. The Swamp Thing says that he won’t let them this time. Conclave Ellery leads a team of Conclave paramilitary types into the swamp to find and kill the creature. Avery tells Ellery to take it easy on the creature, that this is still his project. Ellery no longer trusts Avery and cuts him out altogether. In the swamp, the Swamp Thing isolates and kills one of the mercenaries, using him as bait to lead the rest into a trap. Swamp Thing uses the plant life to cut off their escapes and kills the mercenaries. He leaves Ellery alive to go back and tell the Conclave what he witnessed here, what the creature is capable of doing, and to tell them never to return. Running Out of Friends in this Town Avery heads to Delroy’s to drink away his sorrows, but is hit with more bad news. Matt was in a car accident. Avery goes to the hospital and finds the sheriff sitting with Matt. Avery tells her that he’s been thinking. With Maria in the psychiatric ward, they’ll soon be getting a divorce. If the sheriff and Matt will stand with Avery, they can finally be together as a family. The sheriff tells Avery that she can’t forget how Avery turned Matt into a killer and then stabbed him. She hopes she’s the one to send Avery to hell. In the hospital parking lot, the sheriff is attacked by Avery, who waits in the back seat of her cruiser. He stabs her through the seat and when she blacks out, he traps her in the trunk of the cruiser and sends it into the swamp, watching the car submerge in the water. A Bigger Destiny Liz heads to the video store to confront Danny about being the Blue Devil. Danny reveals that he is the devil, and that the devil is still chattering away inside his head. Danny has only ever wanted to leave Marais, and now that he has the chance, he’s not thinking of heading back to L.A. and laying on the beach. He thinks that there is a greater destiny out there for him. Danny drives to the edge of town. Instead of slowing down as he nears the sign marking the barrier that has kept him trapped in Marais, Danny floors it. His mission complete, he passes through with no problem at all. Healing Properties Abby goes to Maria in the hospital to find out who the men are that have entered the swamp so she can find a way to get them to back off before they harm the Swamp Thing. At the hospital, Maria is plagued by the demons she stirred up when she tried to contact Shauna. Xanadu offers Maria peace, but warns that she may not be able to return from it. When Abby arrives, Maria is trapped in an illusion that Shauna is with her. Xanadu tells Abby that Avery is her best hope for answers now. Woodrue takes his wife to the Sunderland house after she overdoses on her Alzheimer’s medication. She is mentally awake but physically inert, so he tapes her to a dining room chair while he slices and cooks the organs he harvested from the Swamp Thing. There’s not time to properly test the effects of ingesting the organ tissue, so he samples a bite before he feeds it to Caroline. Woodrue collapses, then revives feeling better than ever. His strength is enhanced and he feels attuned to nature. Abby arrives at the Sunderland home, looking for Avery. When she sees Caroline, Abby calls 9-1-1, but Woodrue knocks the phone from her hand. He tells Abby that the only thing that can save Caroline is the plant specimens he harvested from the creature. Woodrue tries to feed a bite to Caroline, but Abby stops him. Woodrue chokes Abby for interfering. Abby is saved when a police officer arrives in response to the call and tazes Woodrue. An ambulance arrives to take Caroline to the hospital while Woodrue is arrested. Abby returns to Alec’s lab. The Swamp Thing is there. He admits that he thought about wandering into the swamp and never returning, but doing so would mean losing his only connection to humanity in Abby. Abby says that she cares about him — not just the man whose mind and memories he carries, but who he is now. There is darkness and danger in the swamp, but there is a beauty that she’s only seen because of him, and she will stand with him to face whatever comes next together. In the post-credits stinger, Matt returns to the police station to find the power out, no one there, and the place ransacked. Further investigation reveals plant matter has sprung up, freeing Woodrue from his cell. Matt encounters Woodrue, changed into a plant creature himself now. Sylvester Stallone & Dolph Lundgren collaborating on action drama series is reporting that Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV, Universal Soldier, The Expendables franchise) and Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone (Creed, Rocky, The Expendables franchise) are currently collaborating on an untitled hour-long action drama series. The series, from Tony Krantz’s Flame Ventures, will star Lundgren while Stallone serves as executive producer alongside his Balboa Productions partner Braden Aftergood. Lundgren will play a covert operative at the Department of Safety and Security at the UN. His character is described as the UN’s special secret agent, a one-man S.W.A.T. team and hostage negotiator. According to the outlet, the show was pitched to Fox, CBS, NBC, Netflix, and Apple this week. The series is written by Ken Sanzel (Reef Break, Numbers), who will serve as the showrunner on the pilot, which might be directed by Stallone. Executive producers also include Sanzel, Krantz, and Lundgren’s manager Craig Baumgarten from Zero Gravity. Stallone and Lundgren have worked on numerous movies together, including Rocky IV, Creed II, and The Expendables franchise. Gal Gadot confirmed to star in Showtime’s Hedy Lamarr miniseries has confirmed that Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has officially signed on for the leading role in the network’s upcoming biopic limited series which centers on the life of veteran actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr. The untitled series will be Gadot’s first starring role in a US television series. “The life of Hedy Lamarr was a truly fascinating one. She stood at the forefront of many issues that challenge women and our society today,” Showtime’s Co-President of Entertainment Jana Winograde said in a statement. (via ) “In Gal Gadot, we have found the transcendent actress to portray the deeply complex Lamarr. And with the award-winning talents of Sarah Treem and Warren Littlefield, this is going to be a special series.” In addition, Gadot will also serve as an executive producer along with Sarah Treem (The Affair), Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale), Katie Robbins (The Last Tycoon) and Jaron Varsano (My Dearest Fidel). Austrian-born Hedy Lamarr was a popular actress in the 1940s, starring in such films as Algiers, Boom Town, I Take This Woman, Comrade X, Come Live with Me and Samson and Delilah. However, she is most famous for her work as an inventor. During World War II she helped create a radio guidance system for allied torpedoes that utilized spectrum and frequency. Today, this same technology is used to enable Bluetooth and WiFi. At the age of 85, Lamarr passed away due to a heart disease in 2000. All photos by ABC. Agents of SHIELD Season 6 Finale Recap The two-part Season 6 Finale brings this season’s storylines to a head. Believing that Sarge is the only one strong enough to stop Izel, Daisy and May head with him into the jungle, where Izel has taken control of Flint and used him to rebuild the monoliths. Daisy and May hope to be able to separate whatever demon from the other side of the gateway lives in Sarge’s body from him, leaving the Coulson side behind. Sarge isn’t so sure that will work; if the demon is gone, what’ll be left of him? The Shaw Drive With the team maintaining radio silence, the rest of the SHIELD team at the Lighthouse is helpless to assist. Deke has an idea. He takes Fitz-Simmons to a previously empty floor of the Lighthouse where he has moved his tech startup. The group has built the slap bracelets that keep Izel from possessing people. Now they are working on a jump drive that could, theoretically, allow agents to teleport into the temple to free Mack and YoYo. Fitz yells at Deke about stealing tech, patenting it, and selling it for profit. Deke tells him that he built this company because he doesn’t fit in anywhere else. He’s a man out of time and even his own family thinks he’s a joke. Deke straps the jump drive to his back and teleports into the temple, freeing Mack, YoYo, and Flint. Meanwhile, Izel has released her shrike onto a nearby resort. The infected begin to move toward the temple, forcing Sarge, May, and Daisy to fight, blowing the element of surprise. Daisy leads the infected away from the temple and back to the Quinjet, where she finds Mack and YoYo aboard. Mack and Daisy argue about the mission, with Mack still not trusting Sarge. The three barricade themselves in the disabled Quinjet, fighting off the horde of infected trying to get to them. During the fight, one of the shrike infects YoYo. Deke, meanwhile, tries to teleport back to the Lighthouse, but the jump drive needs time to recharge. Instead, he is flushed out of the temple and through the jungle to another jet. Mack overhears Deke trying to hail the Lighthouse on the radio and talks Deke through the repairing the jet and piloting it over to rescue them. Enoch’s Bluff The Lighthouse isn’t answering Deke because it has been infiltrated and locked down by Chronicom hunters. All of the Chronicoms have been reassigned as hunters — including Isaiah, who is sent to Kitson to take out Enoch. The hunters know everything that Fitz-Simmons know about SHIELD protocols, including the emergency escape protocols. The hunters make their way through the Lighthouse, flushing out and killing SHIELD agents as the Chronicoms search for the Framework. Fitz-Simmons tell the surviving agents to head to the tech startup to hide; because Fitz-Simmons didn’t know about it when they were Chronicom captives, then the hunters won’t know about it either. Fitz-Simmons head to where the Framework is stored and rig it with explosives. Hunters corner the couple. With no escape, the two prepare to sacrifice themselves to blow up the Framework, saving lives. Pinned down, the two are saved by Enoch, who defeated Isaiah and used his skin to infiltrate the hunters and save Fitz-Simmons. Enoch believes there is a way to escape, but it will mean forever altering the course of Fitz-Simmons’s lives. The Temple At the temple, May and Sarge confront Izel. Izel and May each try to get Sarge to join them. Sarge knows anger, fear, and pain. May tells him that’s love. Sarge now knows the only way to be rid of pain is to cut it out of himself. He stabs May with the sword and pushes her through the gateway to the other realm. In the other realm, life and death are meaningless. May removes the sword from her abdomen and uses it to take out the three guardians of the temple. Izel goes through the gateway and battles May on the other side, holding May off long enough to replace the stones that open the temple door, letting the rest of her people into the temple in order to access the gateway. Daisy, Mack, and YoYo confront Sarge, who has wholly given himself to the demon. The demon is stronger than Daisy’s quake ability. He is stronger than Mack. While Sarge fights them off, YoYo is possessed by the shrike. Neither Daisy nor Mack has the will to kill YoYo. Sarge turns Daisy so that her back is to the gateway, threatening to torture her for eternity once his people come through. Izel comes through the gateway and is about to stab Daisy from behind when May follows Izel through and kills her. That cause the shrike to die, releasing YoYo. May throws the sword to Mack, who kills Sarge, closing the gateway. “We Had Time” May dies in Daisy’s arms, asking if there was anything of Coulson left. Simmons enter the temple with a team in hazmat suits. She tells the rest that May will be fine. May is put into a pod and her tissue will be revived once her body reaches the correct core temperature. Once the hazmat team has collected samples from the monoliths, the SHIELD agents board Zephyr-1, equipped with the jump drive. From the air, they blow up the temple and are remote piloted by Fitz –who is not aboard– to New York City. The landscape has changes, with the Empire State Building the tallest building by far, possibly the tallest building left in the world according to Simmons. Simmons explains that the hunters are trying to turn the earth into Chronyca-3. They have Fury’s black box and access to centuries of SHIELD information. SHIELD is the only organization strong enough to stop the Chronicoms, but they need someone with vast and intimate knowledge of SHEILD and its history to stop them. To that end, Enoch has helped create SHIELD’s most advanced Life Model Decoy. It has Chronicom tech and all of its host’s memories. Bob Iger teases a potential third live-action Star Wars series Despite the end nearing for the primary saga of the long-running sci-fi film franchise Star Wars, Disney CEO Bob Iger not only announced today that the next three Star Wars films are the in-development projects from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, but that there may also be a third live-action TV series extension of the franchise in the works. Speaking at the MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit, Iger discussed the future of the franchise and how the studio is planning on filling the gaps between the final primary installment The Rise of Skywalker and the first installment of the next trilogy, which is slated for a December 2022 release. “..In the interim, we are producing two Star Wars live-action series for Disney+, one of them is called The Mandalorian, which is being supervised by Jon Favreau, and the other one is a bit of a prequel to Rogue One. And my guess is there will probably be at least one more live-action series that we produce for Disney+ (meaning a Star Wars series), before we release the next film.” The franchise thus far has only seen three TV series extensions of the lore, all of which however have been animated, and the studio is currently working on two live-action small screen spin-offs. The first is The Mandalorian focusing on the lone titular gunfighter, which is set to premiere on the upcoming streaming service Disney+ on November 12. The second series currently in the works for Disney+ is an untitled project focusing on Rogue One character Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), described as an espionage thriller, from The Americans writer Stephen Schiff, which is set to begin production sometime later this year. Iger’s comments don’t necessarily confirm the development of a third series, but given the franchise’s popularity and potential for multiple story expansions, the mammoth studio’s inclinations to potentially produce a third iteration definitely creates hope for more adventures in a galaxy far, far away. Euphoria Season 1 Episode 7 Recap In the of HBO’s , Nate blackmailed Jules into helping exonerate him, and Rue took care of Jules while drunk at Daniel’s Halloween party. In Euphoria Season 1 Episode 7, Rue struggled with her bipolar moods, while Jules visited friends in LA. Manic-Depressive We saw Rue in two states immediately following the party. In her manic state, she played the Morgan-Freeman-esque detective as she and Lexi tried to work out Jules’s motivation for helping Nate. Rue figured out that Nate had catfished Jules but didn’t realize he was blackmailing her. She believed Jules had fallen for Nate. She went to Fezco, hoping he would use his gun to scare Nate. Fezco told Nate to stop messing with Rue and her friends or he would kill him. At the end of the episode, Fezco and Ashtray frantically flushed drugs while the cops were outside. In her depressive state, Rue stayed in bed and watched Love Island. She didn’t leave her room after she rudely confronted her mother’s date. Rue’s depression prevented her from urinating. Her mother found her writhing on the floor and took care of her. Rue suggested going back on her medication. Like a Dream Jules claimed to be sick and was out of school for a week. She texted Rue to let her know everything was fine, but she would be visiting a friend in LA. When her friends asked how she was doing after the move, Jules wanted to avoid the subject. However, she told them about Rue, obviously smitten. Jules hooked up with Anna, who reminded her of Rue. Advice Rue gave us insight on Cassie’s background. Her parents had an unhappy marriage. After a car accident where he was drunk, her father became addicted to pain medication. She and Lexi lost touch with him. When Cassie last saw him, he’d clearly become a junkie. Cassie gathered her friends and sister around. She needed advice on if she should tell McKay about making out with Daniel. They all advised her against it. Cassie insisted that she felt too guilty. After they left, Cassie told Lexi that she was pregnant. When Cassie went to McKay, he told her she would make a good mother, but not now. Naked At the Halloween party, Kat had sex with Daniel. He had been her childhood boyfriend. Unfortunately, he hadn’t remembered it that way. At Cassie’s, Maddy and Kat got into a vicious argument that led to Kat storming out and the advice council dissolving. At home, she cammed for her anonymous big spender. Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 Recap In the of HBO’s , Sansa and Arya learned the truth about Jon’s parentage, and Cersei executed Missandei in front of Daenerys. In Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5, the penultimate episode of the series, Daenerys dealt with a number of betrayals, and her forces attacked King’s Landing. The Spider Varys wrote letters about Jon being the true heir to the Iron Throne. When Jon arrived in Dragonstone, Varys tried to convince him that he would be the better ruler. Tyrion confessed to Daenerys that Varys had betrayed her, but she already knew. She took it to mean that Jon had betrayed her, and when Jon couldn’t be with her romantically, Daenerys resigned herself to ruling through fear. She had Varys executed for his treason. The Mad Queen Despite the scorpions, Euron’s fleet, and the Golden Company, Daenerys’s forces, especially her remaining dragon, Drogon, cut through them like butter. The battle for King’s Landing was over soon, as the bells rang to announce Cersei’s surrender and the Lannister soldiers dropped their weapons. However, Daenerys wasn’t finished and used Drogon to rain fire down on King’s Landing, civilians and all. Grey Worm charged the surrendering soldiers, and the rest of Daenerys’s armies resumed attacking. Eventually, Jon ordered his troops to fall back. Cleganebowl Arya and The Hound finally made it into the Red Keep. As the castle crumbled around them, Sandor told her that she had to go back. If Arya followed him, she would not survive. Arya thanked him and left the castle. We followed Arya as she made her way through the devastation, trying to save as many as she could but ultimately failing as ashes rained from the sky. She found a horse and rode it away. In the Red Keep, The Hound found his brother escorting Cersei and Qyburn to safety. Sandor confronted Gregor. The Mountain ignored Cersei’s orders to stay with her and killed Qyburn in an instant. Cersei got out of there as the Clegane brothers squared off. Though The Mountain overpowered him, Sandor got some good stabs in. The only problem was that The Mountain is undead. He shrugged them off and pressed his fingers into The Hound’s eyes. Knowing that even a dagger through the eye wasn’t working, Sandor threw himself onto his brother, and they tumbled from the tower into fire and destruction. Together to the End The Unsullied had caught Jaime and were guarding him. As Daenerys’s Hand, Tyrion gained access to him and set him free. Jaime was supposed to convince Cersei to surrender by ringing the bells and opening the gates. Unfortunately, Jaime missed the cutoff as the gates to the Red Keep closed, so he had to find another way in. He ran into Euron, fresh out of the water after Drogon destroyed his fleet. He fought Jaime and stabbed him. Despite Jaime ultimately besting him, Euron rejoiced at having killed Jaime, who wasn’t dead yet. He taunted Jaime for being a Kingslayer yet again as he died. Jaime found Cersei and took her through the crumbling castle. They went underground, but debris blocked the way out for them.
